SteelRadar met our Chairman of the Board, Mahir Engin, at the 2nd National Stainless Steel Summit held on 13 October at the İTÜ Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center. The interview covered our company’s transformation and the current agenda of the stainless steel sector.
Mahir Engin described Engin Metal’s journey from stainless steel trading to becoming a service and processing center. Noting that we bring different production stages together under one roof by offering our customers semi-finished and finished products, Engin said this transformation has increased demand for our company, while the overall market is experiencing a marked contraction in demand.
Emphasizing that high interest rates make investment decisions difficult and lead companies that need financing to postpone their projects, Engin also pointed out that the global slowdown and trade measures in foreign markets make it harder to find an outlet through exports. He expects the stagnation to continue into 2027, with the market likely to open up around 2028.
